What is a Passive House?

A Passive House is a construction standard which achieves extraordinarily low energy consumption. Occupants of a Passive House enjoy excellent comfort conditions and high indoor quality during both winter and summer.

Typically this requires high insulation levels, very good building airtightness and a simplified heating and - if necessary - a cooling system. Excellent indoor quality is guaranteed by a mechanical ventilation system with highly efficient heat recovery.

Why Build Passive Houses?

The Passive House standard offers a cost-efficient way of minimizing the energy demand of new buildings in accordance with the global principle of sustainability, while at the same time improving the comfort experienced by building occupants.
