Munich, 30 March 2009. At the beginning of May 2009, the best knowledge centres for passive houses in Europe: eza! (Energie & Umweltzentrum Allgäu GmbH) in Kempten (Germany), PHD (Passivhaus Dienstleistung GmbH) in Darmstadt (Germany) and EIV (Energieinstitut Vorarlberg) in Dornbirn (Austria) will organise the first German language pilot training course for passive house designers on European level.

An English language pilot course is scheduled for October 2009 in Austria, for November 2009 in the UK and for the end of 2009 in Denmark.

The Passive House standard, currently the best energy construction standard, becomes widely accepted and also requested more and more by the EU. In order to spread the necessary knowledge among architects and designers, the EU fosters the development and dissemination of a training course through the project "Certified European Passive House Designer". The course is designed as a full 80 hours intensive programme to cover all relevant issues for Passive House design and it is initially implemented as a pilot course for German speaking architects and designers. The course will be completed with an exam as "European Passive House Designer", issued by the Passive House Institute Dr. Wolfgang Feist (Darmstadt). After a successful passing of the exam, the Passive House Institute will provide the participant with the certificate "Certified European Passive House Designer". After the training pilot courses, the training material will be optimized and translated in order to establish other courses on a broad basis in many European countries.

The project "Certified European Passive House Designer" for a European course in Passive House design is co-financed by the European Commission in the framework of the programme "Intelligent Energy Europe" (IEE).
